Abstract

A booklet by Senan Molony about the Canadian Pacific Line ship the MOUNT TEMPLE, one of the ships that responded to the TITANIC's distress call, with the autograph of the author on page 2. The booklet presents the hypothesis that the MOUNT TEMPLE was the so-called "mystery ship" seen by TITANIC passengers and crew during the sinking of the ship. That ship, which was within sight but did not respond to distress calls or rockets, is generally believed to have been the CALIFORNIAN, and its captain Stanley Lord was widely scorned for sleeping through the disaster. Molony presents an argument for MOUNT TEMPLE having been the mystery ship instead, with contemporaneous documents supposedly supporting that argument. Molony has written several books about the question of the mystery ship. Other historians and experts have rebutted these claims.
