Abstract

A booklet about Tourist class accommodations on the QUEEN MARY. What had previously been steerage or third class was renamed tourist class on this ship, in recognition that immigration to the United States was in decline and a new middle class on both sides of the Atlantic were increasingly interested in traveling. This booklet briefly describes the tourist class decks and what rooms and public areas are in each. However, it also emphasizes that even the tourist class spaces are full of art, culture and luxury. The paintings on each deck, and their artists, are mentioned, and a description of the library notes that there are over 1500 volumes, with English and foreign language books. Other areas mentioned are the cocktail bar, children's playroom, the beauty parlor, the swimming pool and the gymnasium. After the deck description, there is a list of the Principal Works of Art in the tourist accommodations. And after that is a list of facts about the ship, emphasizing its technological advancements and the labor that went into its construction. The booklet has a shiny gold cover with a stylized image of the ship, and every page has a black and red print of it as well.
