Abstract

The collection contains Correspondence, vessel accounts, expense books, and bills. Of special interest are the legal papers (1904-1906), including lawyers' letters, libel papers, and published court transcript, relating to the adjudication of a collision at sea between the schooner WILLIAM BISBEE (commanded by Bernet) and the Anchor Line steamship FURNESSIA. Other vessels represented include schooners JAMES L. MALOY, HELVETIA, WAWENOCK, and J. FRANK SEAVEY, and barge BEAUFORT, all of which were mastered by Bernet.

John Bernet was a ship master from Rockland, Maine. He was involved as master or shareholder with the schooners WAWENOCK, JAMES L. MALOY, J. FRANK SEAVEY, HELVETIA, WILLIAM BISBEE, LIZZIE E. DENNISON, and the barge BEAUFORT.
