Vessel went ashore on Block Island, RI On Aug. 1, 1906, and on Brentons Reef, RI, on Jul 2, 1909. The Scott Company succeeded in its operations in 1906, but in 1909 they were unsuccessful in hauling the NERO off the reef; therefore, the Navy accepted the proposal of another firm to perform the job.
