History of Gildersleeve Shipbuilding
The Gildersleeve family operated a shipyard at Gildersleeve (now Portland), Connecticut, between 1821 and 1932. The yard was first know as Gildersleeve & Sons. It later changed to the Gildersleeve Shipbuilding Co. in 1908 and then the Gildersleeve Ship Construction Co. in 1917.
