Biographical / Historical

Mr. Augustus Sprague Burgess (1884-1960) was a United States Lighthouse Service general contractor from 1911 to 1921. These plans from his personal collection are Lighthouse Service drawings dating from 1887 to 1924 which depict lighthouses, light stations, light vessels, aids to navigation, residences, and other structures used by the U. S. Lighthouse Service. The collection also includes plans from the Alpha Portland Cement Co., Easton, Pennsylvania, which was a hired sub-contractor by the Lighthouse Service. Those plans are for farm buildings, outbuildings, and other outdoor structures.
