Biographical / Historical

William F. Crosby (1891-1953) was a naval architect, editor, and author. He was editor of Rudder and Motor Boat magazines and an author of several books including Boat Sailing, a Primer for the Beginner, Small Boat Racing, and Amateur Boat Building. He drew plans for the various publications and designed independently. He did military craft during World War II, including navy torpedo boats with Huckins Yacht Corp., Jacksonville, Florida, and work for Gibbs Corporation designing new vessels and wartime conversions. Dated plans in this collection range from 1920 to 1947 and include plans drawn for Mechanix Illustrated, Sears and Roebuck and Co., the Universal Motor Company, Gibbs Gas Engine Co., Jacksonville, Florida, and Consolidated Shipbuilding Corp., among others. The plans represented range from small plywood, hard-chine boats for outboard power and sail, to larger vessels such as a steam tug and a PT boat designed by Huckins Yacht Corp.
