Biographical / Historical

This is a collection of blueprints, sketches, specifications, and miscellaneous material relating to the Franklin G. Post and Franklin G. Post & Son, Inc., boat yard of Mystic, Connecticut. The yard was operated by Franklin Grotus Post and later by his son, Ernest F. Post. Franklin had been a boatbuilder and also worked as a machinist at the J. W. Lathrop Engine Co., in Mystic, Connecticut. Ernest joined the business after graduating from college in 1924. The plans range in date from the 1920's to 1956 and include commercial, recreational, and government work. Both power and sail are represented. (Collection 70 contains further plans from this firm.) Mystic Seaport purchased this collection in 1987 from the Mystic River Historical Society.
