Biographical / Historical
The Electric Launch and Navigation Company, later known as the Electric Launch Company (Elco), began in 1882. In 1899 it became the Electric Boat Company. After World War II the company returned to the production of yachts, but it was considered unprofitable and the division was closed in 1949. These plans for Elco-built boats were discovered in a warehouse at the General Dynamics facility in Avenel, New Jersey. The earlier drawings are labeled from The Elco Works; the later ones are labeled Elco Yacht Division, Electric Boat Company, and include drawings for the last postwar designs. The plans date from circa 1939 to 1949 and are mainly for stock features, such as wiring, rudder assembly, and windshields for the later series of yachts. Some profiles are provided, but very little construction information is included.
