Biographical / Historical

This is a collection composed of individual plans and bound volumes from the firm of Louis J. Larsen, Inc., Sailmakers, of New York City. Louis J. Larsen (d. 1959) established the business in 1917, and the firm stayed active until 1981. The company was sometimes referred to as Larsen Brothers, after his sons Louis A. and William (Bill) were in the firm. Drawings were either collected by the firm from the designers and builders of the vessels or drawn by Larsen staff as necessary. The collected drawings range in date from circa 1900 to 1981, and include small and large yachts. The gore books cover the time period 1935 to 1981 and contain basic sail plans, measurements, and statistics.
