Consolidated Shipbuilding-Mason Collection
Dates
- Creation: 1896 - 1950
Biographical / Historical
Cataloging of the collection is in progress. In 1896 the Gas Engine and Power Company and the firm of Charles L. Seabury and Company consolidated to form the Gas Engine and Power Co., and Charles L. Seabury and Co., Consolidated, Morris Heights, New York. In 1919 the firm shortened its name to the Consolidated Shipbuilding Corporation, and the company continued to operate until the 1950's. These plans represent the yachts produced by the firm from 1896 through 1950. The plans are of racing and cruising power yachts including runabouts, motor cruisers, and launches. Standard detail drawings for Consolidated-built vessels are also represented, for example vents, awnings, and rudders. In 1990 and 1992, Mr. Alvin Mason, N.A., donated this material to the Museum.
