This collection includes plans and publishing negatives from the personal collection of author, illustrator, model builder, and modeling instructor Portia A. Takakjian (1930-1992). Ms. Takakjian was active in several ship model associations including the Nautical Research Guild. She published numerous articles, and her three books on models and modeling are "The 32-Gun Frigate Essex, Building a Plank-On-Frame-Model," "Ship Modeling Techniques," and "The Anatomy of The Ship, The 32-Gun Frigate Essex." This collection includes plans drawn by Ms. Takakajian for use in building and publication as well as other plans collected by her for research use.
