Biographical / Historical
This is a collection of plans and sketches drawn by Hector Darrach of Mystic, Connecticut, between 1855 and 1881. Nova Scotia born, Mr. Darrach (1838-1916) was living and working in Mystic prior to the Civil War as a carpenter for the George Greenman and Company shipyard and as an independent subcontractor. Vessels represented include the menhaden steamer Garret Polhemus, the pilot boat Telegram, the sandbagger Richmond, an unidentified 2-masted schooner, the yacht Water Witch, the auxiliary steamship Union, and the sloop E. M. Darling. These plans were donated in memory of John Lyman Allyn, Jr., by his daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Cynthia) Clapp, in 1984.
