Biographical / Historical

This group of plans is from the personal collection of naval architect Benjamin A. Barstow, who operated a boat yard and yacht brokerage on Long Island, New York, from the 1950's to the 1970's. These plans include drawings created for his business use and works of other designers. In addition, the collection includes drawings that he and others produced as members of the WPA/Historic American Merchant Marine Survey project between May 1936 and October 1937. This entire collection represents vessels ranging in date from an 1832 half model to early- 20th-century recreational craft.
