Biographical / Historical
These plans were discovered in the yard at Seth Persson Boat Builders, Old Saybrook, CT. They include the drawings of Howard Merrick Smith, Jr., N.A. and other designers and are believed to have been used to build, repair and maintain vessels in the Persson yard. Seth Persson began his career working with his father Frans in Brooklyn, NY. Frans, a Swedish immigrant, worked for the telephone company and designed and built boats on the side. Some of his designs were published in Rudder magazine. In 1934, with Frans's assistance, Seth opened a boatyard in Connecticut. His sons, Jon (1959-) and Richard (Rick) (1955-) Persson continued to operate the yard after his death. The plans in this collection range in date from 1907 to 1955.
