The collection contains 14 pieces in one box. The pieces range from the military appointment of Noyes as Sergeant Major in the Infantry in 1824 to Bills of Sale of shares in whaling and other vessels from 1840 to 1844.
John H. Brower Papers
This is a collection of chiefly records of Brower Company and its predecessors: Brower & Nelson and Wynkoop, Arthur & Brower, which conducted business (mostly in cotton) on an extensive scale, with interests in as many as 15 vessels at one time.

Vessels represented include the ships ABIGAIL, BRAGANZA, CONDOR, and PARACHUTE, and barks LEBARON, MORNING LIGHT, OSCEOLA, and TUSCALOOSA.

The collection contains miscellaneous receipts, deeds, franchises, leases, licenses, transfers, bills of sale, tax notices and returns, broadsides, correspondence, etc., involving oystering, primarily in the New Haven and Bridgeport, Connecticut, area. Oyster men featured are H. C. Rowe, A. E. Hamilton, Charles E. Hamilton, and Edwin Thompson. The collection also includes numerous pamphlets and articles relating to the oyster industry in general.
