Correspondence, contracts, accounts, legal documents, specifications, and other papers, relating to Lupton's claims against the U.S. Navy Dept. for cost overruns during the building of the gunboat LENAPEE during the Civil War. The claims were later continued by his estate.

Abstract This collection is primarily the business history of Loring's City Point Works in South Boston, from 1874 to 1894, when the yard was closed. The papers occupy 3 document boxes and are arranged by year and subject. Box 1 contains general business papers, the earlier files providing a great deal of information for the contract work on Cruiser #1 (U.S.S. MARBLEHEAD), and three sea-going tugboats.
