Abstract

This collection consists of thirteen boxes and nine volumes primarily containing business correspondence, accounts, receipts, cancelled checks, checkbooks, and bankbooks relating to the cooperage firm of Asa P. Morse between the years of 1855 and 1880. There is little personal correspondence.

Abstract This collection is primarily the business history of Loring's City Point Works in South Boston, from 1874 to 1894, when the yard was closed. The papers occupy 3 document boxes and are arranged by year and subject. Box 1 contains general business papers, the earlier files providing a great deal of information for the contract work on Cruiser #1 (U.S.S. MARBLEHEAD), and three sea-going tugboats.
