Records of the Schooner ORVILLE HORWITZ
Records, 1846-1887, of the schooner ORVILLE HORWITZ. This collection includes paid bills, the protection certificate for Captain Chauncey Kelsey, and other papers. There are also two account books. The first contains the vessel’s accounts for each port and details of the cargos for each trip. The second contains the date when each crew member was hired and their wages for each voyage. It is not clear who kept these records.
Samuel A. Beebe Papers
Thirty-five daily journals of Samuel A. Beebe (1843-1897) of East Lyme, Connecticut. The journals include details of Beebe's life on shore and on fishing and trading voyages, including cargo, daily catch numbers, location of fishing grounds, and various ports of call along the east coast from Key West to Nova Scotia.
Steamboat-Inspection Service Certificates and Licenses
The collection contains certificates and documents issued to steam-powered water craft by the Steamboat Inspection Service, Dept. of Commerce and Labor, primarily through the districts of New London and New Haven, Connecticut. Also includes pilots, masters, and engineers certificates; inspection certificates for passenger and freight steamers, towing and ferry boats, and steam yachts; and miscellaneous documentation relating to steam boilers, licenses extended, and licenses suspended.
