Scope and Contents of the Papers

Included in the collection are voyage reports and copies of daily log sheets describing activities aboard ship both underway and in port. In addition, there are copies of photographs (originals were sent to the Photography department) taken aboard ship and while ashore in Antwerp, Belgium, Brindisi, Italy, Oran, Algeria, Guam, and Shanghai, China. There are also copies of photos of Mr. Dubrule taken at the U.S. Naval Station in San Diego where he taught boxing to recruits. Printed items include postcards from ports visited during his deployments with the Armed Guard, a Christmas Dinner menu from the Navy Base in Shanghai, separation papers from the US Navy, various denominations of war-era currency obtained while in Japan, China, Russia, and Germany, and several periodical articles describing the sinking of the German battleship SCHARNHORST.
