Scope and Contents of the Papers
Included in the collection are voyage reports and copies of daily log sheets describing activities aboard ship both underway and in port. In addition, there are copies of photographs (originals were sent to the Photography department) taken aboard ship and while ashore in Antwerp, Belgium, Brindisi, Italy, Oran, Algeria, Guam, and Shanghai, China. There are also copies of photos of Mr. Dubrule taken at the U.S. Naval Station in San Diego where he taught boxing to recruits. Printed items include postcards from ports visited during his deployments with the Armed Guard, a Christmas Dinner menu from the Navy Base in Shanghai, separation papers from the US Navy, various denominations of war-era currency obtained while in Japan, China, Russia, and Germany, and several periodical articles describing the sinking of the German battleship SCHARNHORST.

Biography of Raymond Dubrule
Raymond Henry Dubrule was born in East Hartford, Connecticut on September 25, 1923. He lived there during early childhood, prior to his family's move to Windsor, where he attended John Fitch High School. After enlisting in the US Navy he was sent to Recruit Training at Newport, RI and Gunnery School before joining the liberty ship BERNARD M. BAKER during World War II. When he reported aboard ship, preparations were being made to sail for Murmansk, Russia, and it was on this initial voyage in December, 1943, that Royal Naval vessels engaged the German armored cruiser SCHARNHORST as she approached the convoy. In January,1945 he transferred to another liberty ship, the JERRY S. FOLEY, and deployed in convoys to Antwerp, Belgium at a time when the city was under constant bomb and rocket attack. In May, 1945 when the ship docked at New Orleans, he left for San Diego prior to duty in Guam, North Korea and Shanghai, China.

Abstract
The collection consists of documents, originally part of a scrapbook, assembled by Raymond Dubrule during his service with the Naval Armed Guard from 1943 through 1946. Mr. Dubrule served aboard the liberty ships BERNARD M. BAKER and JERRY S. FOLEY and also spent time in New Orleans, San Diego, Guam, North Korea and Shanghai before being discharged from the Navy in Lido Beach, Long Island, New York.
