Postcard autographed by TITANIC survivor Eva Hart
Abstract
Postcard with a photograph of Eva Hart, who survived the TITANIC disaster at age 7, and her much later autograph. The back explains that this photo was "taken shortly after her arrival in new York from the rescue ship R.M.S. Carrpathia." She was traveling with her parents, Benjamin and Eva Hart, emigrating to Winnipeg, Canada, where Benjamin had a brother. After the collision, Eva's father wrapped her in a blanket and carried her to a lifeboat, putting her in with her mother and telling her, "be a good girl and hold Mummy's hand." That was the last time she ever saw him. Hart gave several interviews over the years, talking about the premonitions of disaster that her mother had had, of her own memories of people screaming in the dark, and about the White Star Line's responsibility for the disaster. In her later years, she was active in Titanic Historical Society events, and she coauthored a 1997 memoir called Shadow of the Titanic.
