Biography of Elihu Spicer

Elihu Spicer was born in Noank, Connecticut in 1825 and was to become a shipmaster and shipowner. He first went to sea at the age of nine, and became a cabin boy at age fourteen. By the age of twenty-two he had become shipmaster of the bark FANNY. He was also to become master of the clipper ships SAMUEL WILLETS and HOUND, as well as other vessels engaged in trade around the world.

In 1861, Captain Spicer entered into a partnership with Charles Henry Mallory, forming the C.H. Mallory & Co. in New York which conducted trading voyages between New York, Florida and Galveston, Texas.

Elihu Spicer died in 1891.
