Jens Peter Olsen Collection
This collection contains 3 volumes, miscellaneous papers, a short transcription, a magazine article, and photocopies. One volume is a log for Olsen’s voyage on the GEORG STAGE, one volume is a log for Olsen’s voyage on the THETIS, and one volume holds the logs for his voyages on the WILLIAM P. FRYE, the SLESVIG, and the LORENA, and also includes sea chanties. The logs are written predominantly in Danish. A few passages, such as the sea chanties, are in English.

The collection consists of accounts, bills, receipts, bills of lading, promissory notes and correspondence contained in 20 file folders. There are also 14 volumes including account books, ledgers, and other various record books, detailing the business activities of Jesse, Jacob, Cyrus, and Charles Hurd. This material contains information on crews wages, cargoes, lumber, store accounts, shipyard business, personal accounts, ropewalk accounts, and shipbuilding activity.

This is a collection of the Reminiscences (1 v.) by Barstow of his command of the merchant ship CELESTIAL EMPIRE, 1874-1876, containing illustrations; a volume of sketches, original poems, navigation computation, and clippings; and transcripts (typewritten) of Barstow's sea stories and sketches, many of them watercolor.
John F. Harden Collection
Chiefly personal, business, and family letters (1849-1877) to Harden. Also includes ship-related bills, accounts, receipts, consular certificates, and general clearances. Topics include Harden's activities as a commander of coasting vessels; his transportation of a locomotive to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; maritime trade; and cargoes, generally lumber. Correspondents include shipowners who engaged Harden as a captain, fellow shipmasters, and business owners.
