Abstract

The collection has been organized chronologically including letters from Hobart regarding the disposition of vessels and cargo; miscellaneous accounts, receipts, and business agreements; instructions to shipmasters; copies of cargo invoices; accounts of cargo sales; and expenses for construction, repair, and outfitting of various vessels. The papers also covey Hobart's difficulties in the West Indies trade during the French and Indian War (1754-1763.)

Abstract The collection is contained primarily bills and receipts, etc., for expenses relative to the vessel's maintenance and the transportation of cargo. Typical expense include bills for towing, wharfage, trimming cargo, fumigating ship, and loading and unloading cargo.
