Postcard mailed from TITANIC on April 10, 1912, 10 April 1912
Abstract
This postcard is one of the rare pieces of mail sent from the TITANIC during its maiden voyage. The ship left Southampton, England on April 10, 1912, making a stop later that day at Cherbourg, France and then, the next day, at Queenstown (now Cobh), Ireland. First class passenger Thomas Parnham Franklin wrote this card to his sister, Grace Franklin, on April 10 and it was postmarked April 11 at Queenstown. It describes his impressions of the ship: "Titanic April 10th/12 We have just left Cherbourg. Plenty of wind & very cold. This is a lovely boat just like a town. I spent about an hour in the gym this afternoon. Love to all. Tom." Thomas Franklin died in the disaster just five days later. The front of the card has a colorful artist's rendition.
